Uncle Chuang's Bakery - Riverside, CA

Uncle Chuang's Bakery
3740 Iowa Ave.
Riverside, CA 92507

Yay! We have an inexpensive Asian bakery near UCR now! I also heard that 85 Degrees C Bakery is coming too, but I haven't heard any updates lately, which is probably a good thing for this place. Anyway, I've tried a few things here. Here are my notes:

* Free drink (coffee or tea) with any purchase of $5 or more
* Pretty good quality and taste--especially considering the price!
* All you do is grab what you want and pay. Pretty quick.
* Love how they have multiple free samples!
* Items are about cheap! Some are just $1-3, although it depends on what you get.

I love the matcha pound cake. Slightly sweet with a clear but not overpowering matcha flavor. Just looking at it, it looks like an almond bread, but it really does taste like matcha. So good!

I can't remember the exact name of this, but it was something like "chocolate bread" or "chocolate pudding bun." Pretty good. You have to like pudding because they pack it in there!
Packed full of chocolate pudding!

Gyro & Chicken Plates @ The Broilers - Fresno, CA

The Broilers (Other location is in River Park)
780 Palmdon Dr.
Fresno, CA 93704

Isn't that beautiful? I love the colors, and this place is pretty generous on portion size for everything, including the pickles. Mom got chicken (left), and I got gyros (right). I enjoyed my meal (I think Broilers is awesome!), and Mom did too, but she said her chicken was dry.

Milk & Ice Cream

Quick tip:  Drizzle milk or water over your ice cream to add a slightly crunchy, icy texture!  I love doing this, and it's good with a little bit of milk or if you drench it because it becomes like an icy milkshake.  This is a good alternative to an actual milkshake if you don't have a blender.

Easy Cheese Muffins

This was my first time making savory muffins, and they were really easy and tasty! I was nervous mixing so much cheese together with everything, but it ended up being good! I love the slightly toasted cheese along the sides and on top of the muffins, and I definitely recommend eating these warm! I'd try adding spinach, mushrooms, jalapenos, etc.

Cheese Muffins - Adapted from Pioneer Woman (Fig's Cheese Muffins)
Makes 12 (You can double the recipe and make 24 like I did)

1 1/2 cups flour
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups shredded colby jack cheese - I used a combination of colby jack and cheddar because I doubled the recipe and forgot to get 6 cups of colby jack
1 cup milk
1 egg
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) melted butter (I used unsalted, but Pioneer Woman used salted)
Optional: Spinach, onions, mushrooms, jalapenos...

(1) Whisk together dry ingredients
(2) Stir in cheese
(3) In a separate bowl, whisk egg, milk, & butter together
(4) Pour milk mixture into dry ingredients & stir to combine
(5) Bake in greased muffin tins at 375 degrees for 20-25 minutes (Took my 24 muffins about 20 min)
