Pizzeria Luigi - San Diego, CA

Pizzeria Luigi

Website

Went to this place because Todd had mentioned it being potentially good. It looked fantastic online/on TV (the original place featured on Diners Drive-ins, and Dives no longer exists) so I tried it with Alex, one of my favorite fooding buddies. This was my first time driving to SD from Riverside. SO much faster than going from Fresno to San Diego (about 1.5 hrs). Anyway, the flavors were excellent together, but the crust was a huge disappointment (hard and flavorless). You just can't beat real Chicago pizza, Cheeseboard in Berkeley (see this and this), or Zachary's in Oakland and Alameda.

Here is what we tried from Pizzeria Luigi:

My favorite (Frenchie = "Honey Ham, Fresh Pear, Blue Cheese Crumbles, Caramelized Onions")

We tried a few. Not sure of some of the names because not all items on the menu were displayed. We did get the Frenchie, a ricotta and spinach one (Alex liked this one a lot), a margherita one, and maybe a pesto one? Hm...I probably would have made more of an effort to record exact names if I had been completely blown away by this place.

The ricotta and spinach one (also good, but the crust was hard and just blah):

 Margherita:

The Frenchie again (YUM! minus the crust):
