Dove's Peanut Butter-Filled Milk Chocolate

Yummm!

Fresno Betsuin Food Bazaar Food

Here's my boxed lunch. All good except for the rice, which was just okay. I don't like how they sweetened and vinegar-ed it. The sliced cucumbers are sweet and kinda sour-ish (like pickled vegetables). The chicken is chicken teriyaki. You can barely see the gyoza (Japanese potsticker) behind the chicken. I think there were three gyoza before I ate two of them.

The Fresno Betsuin Buddhist Temple) has many events throughout the year (like Obon, which every Japanese Buddhist temple has once per year - like OCBC's temple), and the food bazaar is one of them. This was the first time I'd gone to the bazaar in four years or so, so I was surprised to see the church fancied up in Japanese decorations. The food booths looked like little stores in Japan, with wooden structures and pink flowers hanging down. They sold teriyaki burgers, gyoza, chow mein (not Japanese food...haha!), cakes & pies, shrimp & vegetable tempura, shaved ice (can include ice cream, azuki, and/or condensed milk), beef sticks, Japanese curry over rice, teriyaki chicken, and these things called "shrimp fritters," which weren't as great as I thought they'd be (I had something like it years before that were amazing, but these were pretty much fried batter with occasional vegetables and shrimp).

I got my shaved ice with cherry and grape flavors, vanilla ice cream (at the bottom), and condensed milk (on top). MM!

Sorry I didn't take a camera. Dumb. :(

Anpan from the Fresno Betsuin's Food Bazaar

Bought on Sunday, 10/25/09

*Note: "Pan" means "bread" in both Japanese and Spanish.

Anpan Man (anime/Japanese cartoon) is named after anpan. Apparently there's a really popular museum in Japan devoted to Anpan Man.The inside is a sweet bean paste.

Fresno Fair 10/17/09 - Including those TACOS!!

Hadn't been there since around second grade I believe. I am now 22...in case you were wondering.

Kurtis's funnel cake:

Grapes:

That's Kurtis:

Cuuute:

I saw SPIDERMAN!! The preschoolers would be jealous.

My delicious bierock, which they called a "German hamburger." I guess it is like that...except it's in calzone form. haha They're pretty easy to make.

If you ever go, and you like tacos, you have to try their soft tacos. This year, they were $2.75 I think. Something like that. They're so good that my mom even requested that I bring some home. They put mashed potatoes in them. Somehow my mom has or had the recipe...but when she tried it, she said it wasn't the same. Hate when that happens.

Healthy food everywhere.

Sacramento Manju

One of my three grammas gave us some manju today at my brother's bday party.

That powdery stuff is kinako (soybean flour). Yeah...it looks like sand, but it tastes good. I don't normally like manju all that much, but this was pretty good. Three different kinds of textures: sandy, rice-y, and slightly-smooshed-red-bean-y. The kinako makes it seem less sweet. Here is another kind of manju.

Why, oh why does it turn my pictures on their sides sometimes??? Here are some other types of manju (Japanese pastry):

Kogetsudo's Mochi With a Nutella & Crunchy Peanut Butter Filling

I LOVE this combination. Peanut butter and Nutella are so good.

The Xocolate Bar's Cafe con Leche Bar

Yumm. Got from The Xocolate Bar during Solano Stroll on... well, Solano Avenue in Albany just a few weeks ago. I love chocolate-covered coffee beans. And They have really good drinking chocolate too.

Pumpkin Choc Chip Muffin & Pumpkin Loaf Cake @ Great Harvest

Yummm. The loaf cake at the bottom is the first pumpkin-flavored thing I remember trying...and that's when I knew that I would love pumpkin forever. In case you're wondering, I ate it for the first time during my leadership class in high school during senior year.

And the pumpkin loaf cake:

Chocolate Smoothie + Blendtec

Dude... My dad is obsessed with Blendtec's blender. It really does a great job of blending things, and it's easy to clean (unless you make peanut butter!!!)...it's just reeeally loud.

No exact recipe for this... We just randomly put in however much ice, non-fat milk, vanilla ice cream, and cocoa powder. Simple.

Orange Dream Machine

I love Jamba Juice's Orange Dream Machine (like a 50/50 bar smoothie-style):

Costco's Chocolate-Covered Ice Cream Bar (with almonds)

SOOO GOOD!!!! They dip & roll it right when you order it too. And you don't have to order it w/ almonds.

Consumed 2 (with parents) on 9/23-9/24.

From Costco

Just look at those almonds. There are so many of them that they fall off into the little bag.

Chex Mix: Dark Chocolate

Not bad. Good for chocolate cravings...but it's kinda hard for me to stop because I want that constant mixture of cookie, chocolate-covered pretzel, dark chocolate Chex, white chocolate Chex, and M'n'M-like things. Know what I mean? They sorta balance each other out flavor- and texture-wise. Those white ones taste so smooth and creamy. The black circular things taste pretty much the outer parts of Oreos. The chocolate on the chocolate-covered pretzels isn't so great, but when I just eat all the pieces without thinking about what the pretzel chocolate tastes like, I can't tell that it doesn't taste so great. I dunno if I'd buy this again. Maybe for a chocolate-loving friend. Or for a party.
