Baklava at Marat's Restaurant - Fresno, CA

Marat's Restaurant
8961 N Cedar Ave # 103
Fresno, CA 93720-4831

I love baklava when it's not overly sweet, and this stuff at Marat's in Fresno is awesome. I've been to this place many, many times with my family and a couple of friends (Steve and Candy) because we all just LOVE IT so much, and just last week I went there finally with Blake!

Mm... Lamajoon!!

Also spelled "lahmajoun" according to some websites.

I love this. I've heard it described as an Armenian pizza. Makes sense. I need to learn how to make it. My family buys these things in bulk and freezes them. :)

What's in them? Here are the ingredients from one recipe:

1 1/2 cup yellow onion chopped fine
1/2 cup green bell pepper chopped fine
1/2 cup chopped flat leaf parsley
1 teaspoon chopped garlic
1 teaspoon of fresh sweet basil chopped
1 tablespoon fresh mint leaves chopped
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1 can diced tomatoes
1 small can tomato paste
Cayenne pepper, to taste
Allspice, to taste
Salt and pepper, to taste

Marat's Armenian Coffee & Chicken Kebob

Marat's Restaurant
8961 N Cedar Ave # 103
Fresno, CA 93720-4831

More Marat's food here! We also had dolma, pita, hummus, and borek served on separate plates, and my aunt made cute little colorful bags of Ghirardelli chocolate squares as party favors.

This is the Armenian coffee I had with this strawberry cupcake from Chiffono's. Yummm. Nothing like a delicious sweet with black coffee (I can't normally drink sweetened coffee with something that's already sweet). It was KINDA like the Greek coffee we had at Greek Fest only not as thick and clumpy (well, sandy), and this one tasted less like it was made from an instant coffee packet. Sorry...but I saw them using those instant packets at Greek Fest. haha!

Chicken kebob plate (not sure if this is the kebob plate on the menu; this was for a special party for which we had to choose between chicken, beef, or lamb):

Marat's Restaurant - Fresno, CA

Marat's Restaurant
8961 N Cedar Ave # 103
Fresno, CA 93720-4831

Oh, goodness. Just look at that. The triangular thing is a cheese-filled fillo pastry called borek/burek/boereg, the little dark things are yalanchi/yalanci (grape leaves wrapped around rice), and the other three items are dolma (cabbage wrapped around meat and rice). Please note that there are different variations of dolma and yalanchi/yalanci. The ones you've tried may not be exactly the same as these...but these are the names the menu of this place gave us. This food is all from Marat's in Fresno (on Cedar and Shepherd), and I highly recommend it. My family loves going there because the food is delicious and consistent, and the owners are really nice and friendly. Took these pics on July 12th when my dad, bro, and I ate w/ my maternal grandparents. My paternal grandparents, and my aunts and uncles love it too. I also brought my friends from Berkeley here, who also fell in love with it. Man...I want some now.
